Abstract

1395377 Welding by fusion KOCKUMS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS AB 31 July 1972 35678/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division B5] A backing tape 3 for use in welding together metal sheets 1A, 1B comprises an elongate casing comprising glass fibre, the casing being a strip folded double and united along longitudinal edges thereat resting against each other, and enclosed within the casing at least one layer of glass fibre and adhesive for holding glass fibres together in this layer, this layer and the casing having been heated in excess of the combustion temperature of the adhesive. In use, the tape may be supported by backing means 2, as shown, or glued or taped to the sheets. The welding may be manual or automatic, e.g. coated electrode or submerged arc.
