Abstract
1395286 Recovery of hexavalent Cr from solution PRODUITS CHIMIQUES UGINE KUHLMANN 28 March 1973 [14 April 1972] 14880/73 Heading C1A A process for the removal of hexavalent Cr compounds from residual solutions, e.g. from treatment of chrome ore or electroplating, by extraction with water immiscible organic solvent, followed by re-extraction with Na chromate solution to give Na dichromate solution from which the salt can be crystallized. Preferred organic solvents are long chain secondary amines with alkyl chains having more than 18 carbon atoms and quaternary ammonium derivatives in a solvent such as xylene at a concentration of 0À1-0À5 mol./l. or tributyl phosphate. The organic solvent and sodium chromate extractions are carried out in countercurrent fashion continuously to give an extraction efficiency of >95% of hexavalent Cr from residues containing 0À01-200 g./l. of Cr and several metallic impurities in acidic medium.
