Abstract

1395153 Holding animals POLDENVALE Ltd 3 May 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 4583/71 Heading A5R [Also in Division A1 An animal control mechanism comprises a control member 16 rotatable about a horizontal axis 20 extending transversely between the sides of a race 10 at a sufficient height to allow the animal to pass underneath the axis, the control member comprising a plurality of links 18 extending from the axis so that on rotation successive limbs pass through a depending position, the control member being adapted for uni-directional rotation e.g. by a pawl and ratchet mechanism 24, 26, so that the animal can pass the control mechanism in one direction but be prevented from returning by the obstruction of a depending limb. The member 16 can be rotated by a wheel 28 and the ratchet mechanism can be releasable to allow rotation in either direction. A gate 14 traps the neck of an animal and is used for subsequently releasing the animal from the race.
