Abstract

1395112 Explosive powered fastener driving tool HILTI AG 16 March 19 7 3 [7 June 1972] 12810/72 Heading B4C An explosive-powered fastener driving tool has a barrel 5 axially displaceable in a housing 1a, 1b and a protective cap 12 removably connected to the housing. Arranged on the housing is a radially displaceable locking device 13 which is loaded by a spring element 15 towards the barrel 5 and has a stop nose 13a for engagement in an annular groove 5b in the barrel. The radial movement of the device 13 is limited by the cap 12 which has a stop groove 12b which serves for engagement therewith of the device 13. The tool is characterized in that the groove 12b is arranged in the rearward end surface of the cap 12 and the device 13 is mounted so as to be axially displaceable and is loaded by a spring element 14 towards the cap. More than one stop groove 12b may be provided. As described the cap 12 is retained on the housing by a bayonet connection between dogs 12a and 1c on the cap and housing respectively and is held against accidental rotation by the engagement of the device 13 and stop groove 12b. When it is desired to remove the cap, a pointed tool is inserted through a hole 1d in the housing and is engaged with a notch 13b in the device 13 to push it rearwardly and free it from the groove 12b. After removal of the cap operation of the tool is prevented by engagement of the stop nose 13a of the device 13 in the groove 5b in the barrel. This prevents the barrel being pushed back against the action of a pin 17 and spring 16 into a position in which a cartridge 7 carried thereby can be struck by a firing pin 4.
