1394796 Securing railway rails ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS INC 28 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 14922/73 Heading E1G [Also in Division F2] A stud anchor assembly comprises a stud 12 and a one-piece plastics socket 14, e.g. of nylon, intended to be permanently embedded in and retained by a poured material such as concrete, the socket having an elongate tubular body 30 open at at least one end, and a transverse flange 34 intermediate the ends of the body, the socket bore 32 closely engaging a substantial portion of the stud 12 and extending on both sides of a transverse plane including the flange 34. The flange may be perforated or interrupted. The socket has axial fins 36 below the flange and axial fins 38 above the flange which are circumferentially staggered relative to the fins 36. The upper ends of the fins 38 form shoulders 40. The neck of the socket has axial ribs 42. The stud 12 has threaded end portions 16, 18, and an intermediate flange 22 between plain portions 20, 23. The thread 18 preferably has alternating diameters as described in Specification 952301 (see Divisions B3, F2). Alternatively the thread 18 may be replaced by a bolt head or spaced projections or flanges, and the threads 16 by a slot to receive a circlip or wedge. The socket may be moulded separately, or directly on to the stud. In preparing the railway track fastening of Fig. 5, the socket necks of stud anchor assemblies 10 are force-fitted into bores 52 of a template 50 of asbestos-fibre-filled concrete so that the shoulders 40 engage the underside 55 of the template. The anchor/template assembly is embedded in poured concrete with the template upper surface 54 continuous with the concrete surface. Undercut grooves 56 on the template underside key with the concrete. A base member 70 is placed over the studs 12 and the rail 72 clamped by insulated gripping plates 76 retained by nuts and lock washers 74.
