Abstract
1394572 Facsimile DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 21 Feb 1973 [22 Nov 1971] 54100/71 Heading H4F In a facsimile transmitter, utilizing a rotating master copy drum 1 and a parallel-axial line scanning arrangement using no moving parts, the parallel-axial line across the master copy is divided into a plurality (e.g. 32) of contiguous areas and each area is in turn divided up into a further plurality (e.g. 32) of contiguous sub areas. In one embodiment each area is illuminated by a respective light source 4, 5 ... 6 and each sub area is viewed by one end of a respective light guide, said light guides being arranged in bundles 10, 11 ... 12 (e.g. 32 bundles of 32 light guides). The light guide viewing the first sub area (e.g. left most) in each area is fed to a first common detector (e.g. 16) and the light guide viewing the nth sub area in each area is fed to the nth common detector. In the given example of 32 areas, sub areas and detectors, each detector 14-16 is sequentially enabled, e.g. by a 5-stage binary counter 18 and each area is illuminated in sequence for the scanning period of the detectors, e.g. by a 5-stage binary counter 19 fed with the last stage of counter 18. The 1024 sub areas are thus sequentially scanned by the detectors according to the following table: In a second embodiment, each detector 14-16 is replaced by a light source and each light source 4-6 is replaced by a detector. The light guides then carry light to illuminate the master copy.
