1394527 A packing containing electrical components PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 31 July 1973 [3 Aug 1972] 36287/73 Heading B8C A packing, containing electrical components 11 having connection wires 9 consists of a strip 3 of flexible material which is provided with apertures 5 into which the connection wires 9 of the components 11 are inserted the connection wires of each component 11 extending in the same direction with respect to the body of the component, and the strip being provided between successive components mounted thereon, with cut-outs 13 which extend in the transverse direction of the strip and which define, with the longitudinal edges 15 of the strip, the major part of the periphery of integral sub-carriers 17 which can be separated from the strip, and wherein the end of each connection wire is engaged by the strip with a sliding fit, unengaged wire portions remaining between the strip and the component bodies so as to allow subsequent sliding movement of each subcarrier along the wires towards its respective component body. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, two rows of regularly-spaced, apertures 5 are provided, e.g. by means of a punching tool, not shown, in an extruded strip 3 of synthetic resin material the outer ends, which are preferably pointed, of the wires of each electrical component, such as ceramic plate capacitors 7, being inserted, with slight frictional grip, in a pair of apertures 5 in a corresponding subcarrier 17, so that the ends of the wires do not project from the bottom surface of the strip, the wires 9 being of square section. The projected surface a, Fig. 3, of a component body 11 lies within the maximum dimensions of the respective sub-carrier. A sub-carrier 17, with its associated component 11, is removable from the strip 3, e.g. for insertion in a panel, not shown, by cutting along the middle line X-X of a cut-out 13. In a modification, Fig. 5, containing resistors 43, one of the connection wires 35 is return-bent to extend in the same direction as the other wire before both wires, which are of circular cross-section, are inserted into a corresponding pair of apertures 45 which are of square section, the under surface 51 of the strip 39 being provided with projections, ridges, or, as shown, with ribs 53. A strip may have rhombic apertures (58), Fig. 7, not shown. In order to accommodate flexible connection wires, e.g. of coils, the strip 60, Fig. 8, is provided with notches 64 which lead into the apertures 62. In a further modification, Figs. 9,10, not shown, the apertures (70) are enclosed by tags (72) obtained by cuts (76). The strip can be cut in short strips and packaged or, be wound onto a reel. The subcarrier is permanently connected to the component and acts as a spacer and insulating element when the component is mounted upon a panel.
