Abstract

1394013 Time switches SEIKO KOKI KK 11 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 17349/73 Heading H1N A setting device for a timer which is automatically reset at a predetermined time interval after release comprises means 1 mounted for movement between a first position and a second position; means 12 urging it towards the first position; means 3 for operating a switch 10 on movement of the means 1 between said positions; locking means 13 for holding means 1 in the second position; timer-operated release means 17 for automatically releasing means 1 from means 17 at a predetermined set time; and a return mechanism comprising a wheel member 21 with return means 24 thereon, an arm 5 on means 1 for co-operation with means 24, and drive means 25 timer-driven for rotating the wheel 21 at a given velocity so that means 24 acts on arm 5 to move the means 1 from the first position to the second position. As shown the wheel 21 is a gear-wheel having a toothless portion 23 such that timer-driven pinion 25 is not engaged until the slider 1 is released, whereupon arm 5 urges wheel 21 and pinion 25 into mesh and drive ensues until slider 1 has been restored to the position shown. The latch 13 may also be released manually by depressing its arm 19. The slider 1 may be restored at any time by manual pressure on button 9, but if the microswitch 10 is then again closed by manual release of slider 1 before wheel 21 has returned to its unmeshed position the time interval to automatic restoration will depend upon the specific angular position of wheel 21. This variation in time interval is avoided by a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) in which the gearwheel has no toothless portion but is carried on a pivoted bracket and is spring-urged out of engagement with the drive pinion until arm 5 moves it into mesh. Manual restoration by pressure on button 9 thus always results in disengagement of the drive and the wheel is immediately restored to its start position. Alternatively the arm 5 may be pivoted on slider 1 but normally restrained to be effectively rigid by a subsidiary latch (193, Figs. 5 and 5a, not shown); latch (193) co-operates with the movements of slider 1 to release arm 5 and prevent interference by pin 24 when manual release is desired with wheel 21 still in mesh with pinion 25. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the latch 13 is replaced by a timeroperated detent (133) of the kind disclosed in Specification 1,393,109. In yet a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the arm 5 is replaced by a pivoted link with a slot therein engaged over the pin 24.
