Abstract

139,340. Chew, A. C. April 10, 1919. Slide rules. - In slide-rules wherein the slide is adjusted by a rack and pinion, the pinion B is made of segmental form as shown in Fig. 1, so that normally it is not in engagement with the rack A carried by the slide. A pinion is mounted at each end of the rule and exterior milled heads &c. are provided on the squared shafts C. A cursor for the device consists of a metal frame F, Fig. 3, carrying two plates of glass, a spring G, and a plate L bearing on the top surface of the rule. The plate L is of channel section, the base N of which extends beyond the cursor frame, the plate being locked to the frame by bent-over portions H situated on either side of tongues M.
