Abstract
1393111 Measuring fluid-pressure electrically JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 10 April 1972 [13 April 1971] 9269/71 Heading GIN [Also in Division H3] A transducer for measuring fluid-pressure comprises a resilient ferromagnetic tube 15 Fig.1 made to vibrate in a bell-like manner by a combination of windings on inner and outer stator rings 27, 26 and a series of radially located permanent magnets 14, the natural frequency of vibration being indicative of the pressure inside the tube 15. An insulating collar 29 surrounding tube 15 has a number of conductive surface areas forming displacement measuring capacitors in association with tube 15, and the varying capacitance signals are grouped in a 3-phase sense and amplified to feed the windings on cores 26, 27 with phase-displaced voltages which cause vibrations at the resonant frequency of the tube 15 to travel round the tube. The frequency is measured by means not shown and is linearly related to the fluid-pressure inside the tube 15.
