Abstract

1393084 Seaming non-metallic sheet material COMTEX Ltd 1 May 1972 [28 April 1971] 12015/71 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] Two layers of plastics material are sealed together by heating a portion of the layers by feeding them past a heater 5 and folding an unheated portion of the layers over the heated portion of the layers. In the embodiment shown, a filled plastics bag (not shown), is fed past two pairs of hot air heaters 5 by a pair of endless belts (not shown), The heaters blow hot air through a plurality of apertures to melt a strip of the plastics material. Crimping rollers 6 apply pressure to the molten strip. A guide 7 guides the top of the bag into a shoot 8 which folds the top of the bag through 180 degrees on to the still molten strip. Further rollers 9 apply pressure and cool the plastics material. In modifications, the guide 7 and the shoot 8 are positioned between the heaters 1 and the crimping rollers 6. A cutter may trim the top of the bag before it passes between the heaters 5.
