Abstract

1392932 Lidding apparatus SPOONER FOOD MACHINERY ENG CO LTD 17 Aug 1972 [17 Aug 1971 24 March 1972] 38478/71 and 13974/72 Heading A2A [Also in Division B8] Groups of four baking pans 11 are conveyed, e.g. from a loading station to a baking oven, past a lid-receiving station 12 where each group is supplied with a single lid 13. The advance of the pans is detected by means which operates an actuator (37), Fig 2 (not shown), to release a stop 36 as the front end of the leading pan engages inside the lid and drags it forward. As the stop 36, is returned, it operates a further actuator (33) to release a stop 27 enabling the next lid to slide down on rollers 34 of a conveyor 19 under control of magnets 35. The lids are supplied on freely rotatable rollers 16 of a conveyer 15 and held by a stop 31 coupled to a hydraulic actuator which, in response to a detector, operates to release the stop when a rotor 17 is in position to receive the lid. The rotor 17, which has two sets of rollers 21, 22 and magnets 24, 25, is turned about a spindle 20 by a hydraulic actuator 23; it moves in steps of 180‹, either to and fro or in the same direction of rotation. If four sets of rollers 21, 22 are provided, the rotor 27 may turn in 90‹ steps. A spindle 32 operated by actuator (33) engages the stop 27 to release a lid to the conveyor 19. The rollers 21, 22 and 34 may be positively driven and non-magnetic conveyer bands may overlie the rollers. In a modification, Figs 3-4 (not shown), lids are delivered by a conveyer (55) to a lidturning device (58) formed by a pair of chains carrying pole shoes (63), permanent magnets being provided between each pair of shoes.
