Abstract

1392893 Electrophonic musical instruments D J LESLIE 5 June 1973 [16 Aug 1972] 26861/73 Heading G5J A pulsate generation system comprises terminal 11, which receives electrical signals from a musical instrument, connected to channels 12, 13 with frequency changers 14, 18 and loudspeakers 17, 21, the frequency raising of the signal by 14 being equal to the frequency lowering by 18. There may be a third channel which includes a loudspeaker to reproduce the unshifted frequency. The amount of frequency shift may be between 0 and 16 Hz. The frequency changer comprises a phase splitter 52, rotational capacitor 57 with equally spaced stator plates 53-56 receiving progressively phase shifted components of the signal, and eccentric rotary pick-up plate 58. The frequency changers may be preset for a fixed frequency deviation or adjustable or continuously variable. All loudspeakers are supplied via balance controls as 15 and 19 and amplifiers as 16 and 20. Parallel systems with different pulsato speeds may be used. The amount of frequency shift is controlled by speed control 60, which may function by adjusting the frequency o an A.C. power supply controlling motor 59, which rotates plate 58, the direction of which rotation determines whether the frequency is raised or lowered. The rotated loudspeakers may be in or out of phase.
