Abstract

1392838 Tape dispensers BETTER PACKAGES (UK) Ltd 5 Oct 1973 [6 Oct 1972] 46228/72 Heading A4G A dispenser for heat activated adhesive tape comprises a frame 4 supporting a spool holder 6 for a spool of tape 8, a heated drum 20 mounted on the frame 4 through heat insulating mounting means 18, means 44 for guiding the tape around a major proportion of the periphery of the drum 20, and a tape severing device 26. The drum 20, formed of cast aluminium, has electric heating elements (30), Fig. 2 (not shown), received in bores 28, a thermostat (32) maintaining a temperature e.g. of 120‹C, and the mounting means 18 comprises a plate of heat insulating material. A guide finger 14 on a weighted arm 12 regulates take off of tape from the spool 8, and the free end of the tape is adhered to the severing knife 26 after removal of a portion. Overheating of the tape located around the drum 20 is prevented by expansion out of contact with the drum 20 on heating. A powered drive for feeding the tape and effecting severing may be provided in alternative arrangements (not shown).
