Abstract
1392365 Distearyl pentaerythritol diphosphite WESTON CHEMICAL CO Inc 26 April 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 19425/72 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] A novel friable composition comprising from 85 to 90% by weight of distearyl diphosphite and from 5 to 10% by weight of stearyl alcohol and having a solidification point of from 55‹ to 60‹ C. is obtained by reacting 1 mol. of pentaerythritol and 2 mols. of triphenyl phosphite with at least 2À2 mols. of stearyl alcohol or by reacting 1 mol. of diphenyl pentaerythritol diphosphite with at least 2À2 mols. of stearyl alcohol, the reactions being suitably effected in the presence of a transesterification catalyst. The product which can be ground to a free-flowing powder is useful as a stabilizer for organic polymers, especially an olefin-, vinyl halide- or vinylidene halide polymer or copolymer.
