Abstract

1391293 Cameras POLAROID CORP 13 April 1973 [24 April 1972 16 Feb 1973] 17966/73 Heading G2A A camera has a switch S4 connected to a flash firing circuit 476 and arranged to be opened before and after exposure to prevent flash-lamps from being triggered by spurious signals e.g. from operation of an electric motor used in a self-processing reflex camera to raise the reflex mirror and drive the processing rollers. On depressing the release button, a solenoid 172 is energized to close shutter blades (140, 142,) Fig.2, (not shown), the blade movement changing over S4 to disable firing circuit 476 and energize a motor to raise a reflex mirror (50). Mirror movement opens a switch S5, which energizes a solenoid 240 if a flash assembly (234) has been attached, and opens a switch S3 to de-energize the solenoid 172 whereby the shutter starts to open, blade movement changing over S4 to energize the firing circuit 476. If scene illumination is high a photo-electric firing circuit times out and closes the shutter. Otherwise the blades open to a valve dependent on the focusing of the objective, and solenoid 240 is de-energized to send a pulse 570 (Fig.14) to switch an SCR 566a on. This fires a lamp 552a producing a signal on line 558 which operates a switch 444 to suppress photo-electric control and charges a capacitor 546, which eventually operates a trigger 358 to close the shutter. Shutter closure changes over S4 again to disable firing circuit 476 and to energize the motor to process the exposed film unit and cock the reflex mirror (50). A safety timer (580), Fig.8 (not shown) closes the shutter after a pre- determined time if the other timers fail.
