Abstract

1391174 Effluent treatment process IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 May 1972 [25 May 1971] 16873/71 Heading C1C A process for reducing the concentration of a non-ionic organic halogen-containing compound in an aqueous solution, vapour or suspension (this includes 'emulsions'), containing from 0À1 to 20,000 parts of the halogen-containing compound per million parts of water comprises contacting the solution, suspension or vapour with an organic polymer or copolymer, the polymer or copolymer being free of ionizable groups and including at least one component selected from paraffin waxes. polyolefins, vinyl polymers, and halogenated derivatives thereof. The polymer is preferably used in a form having a large surface area, such as granules, powder, foam or mat. Alternatively, the polymer can be in the form of a film or sheet, or a mesh. After use, the polymer or copolymer may be regenerated by steam stripping or solvent extraction.
