Abstract

1390847 Vulcanizable fluoro-elastomer compositions DAIKIN KOGYO CO Ltd 10 July 1972 [17 July 1971] 32226/72 Heading C3P A vulcanizable fluorine-containing elastomer composition comprises in addition to the elastomer, an acid acceptor, a tertiary amine or its salt and an aromatic polyol or its alkali or alkaline earth metal salt. This composition is vulcanized by heating, optionally in two stages. In examples vinylidene fluoride/hexafluoropropylene tetrafluoroethylene terpolymers are vulcanized by heating in the presence of magnesium oxide as acid acceptor, tri-nbutylamine or triethylamine as amine and hydroquinone or bisphenol A as polyol, and carbon. Comparative examples using N,N<SP>1</SP>- dicinnamylidene - 1,6 - hexane - diamine or hexamethylene diamine carbamate are also described. The terpolymers are prepared by emulsion polymerization using ammonium persulphate as initiator or using di-(3,5,6-trichloro- 2,2,3,4,4,5,6,6 - octafluorohexanoyl)peroxide dissolved in 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoro-ethane as initiator in the presence of methyl cellulose.
