1390527 Safety razors GILLETTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Oct 1973 [30 Oct 1972] 50002/72 Heading B4B A safety razor blade magazine comprises an elongated blade strip 7 arranged to be wound; by a rotatable take-up means from a storage reel 3 such that an operative length of the blade is held under tension at its ends thereby leaving such operative length unsupported. The take-up means include a take-up reel 5 rotatably mounted on a shaft 17, the reel being provided with pins 24 which pass through rubber bushes 23 in a drive disc 21; the disc is drivingly coupled to the shaft 17 which is also drivingly coupled to an operating cap 19 via a member 32 and a one-way clutch spring device 20. A second reel 6 for a further blade 8 is similarly mounted on the shaft 17 and is connected to its drive disc 22 as previously described. A cam projection 25 is formed on the disc 22 and is adapted to engage one end of a locking member 26, Fig. 1, the other end of the member being formed with teeth for engagement with the storage reel 3. In use, when it is required to move a new length of the blade into the shaving position, the cap is rotated such that the can disengages the locking member 22 and thereby allows the blades to be drawn on to the take-up reels 5, 6. Towards the end of one complete revolution of the shaft 17, the can re-engages the locking member 26 to prevent rotation of the reel 3; continued rotation of the shaft then tensions the blades, the rubber bushes being compressed to maintain such tension. An indicating disc 29 is rotated via a can 28 and gear teeth 30 such that markings can be seen through a window 31. The magazine may be fitted into a handle.
