Abstract

139,018. Webb, J. R., and Ransome ver Mehr Machinery Co. March 11, 1919. Stationary batch-mixers with rotary stirrers.- In machines for mixing liquids, semi-liquids, and mixtures of mineral and other solids with cementing-medium such as Portland cement, tar, and bitumen, the revolvably-mounted mixing-members comprise wheel-like structures or disks which are mounted at an inclination to their common axis of rotation and also at an inclination to one another. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the wheel-like members 8 are mounted on the shaft 5 so as to be in direct opposition. The U-shaped mixing-chamber 2 is mounted to swing freely upon the shaft 5, which passes through the end plates 3, 4 and is journaled in bearings 6, 7 carried by the frame 1. Each member 8 consists of a boss 9 having radial arms 10 to which are secured segments 11 to form a wheel-like structure. The shaft 5 is driven through gearing 12, 13 from the driving-shaft 14, and, for tipping the chamber 2 to discharge the materials, a toothed segment 16 on the end of the chamber gears with a pinion 17 which can be clutched to the shaft 14 by means of a lever 19. The segments 11 may be plain or may have their inner or outer edges, or both, serrated; or the segmental portions may be replaced by helices 20, Fig. 6, which may be flattened. In a modification, the mixing-chamber is cylindrical and provided with an aperture through which the materials are fed from a hopper, the discharge being effected by rotating the chamber until the aperture is below. Or a discharge aperture fitted with a door, flap, or valve may be provided on the cylindrical chamber. The mixing-members may be stamped or otherwise fashioned from sheet metal, or they may be cast.
