Abstract
1390126 Crash restraint bags HITACHI Ltd and NISSAN JIDOSHA KK 27 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 14155/72 Heading B7B [Also in Division G1] An arrangement for checking whether any of a number of resistors B1-B4, connected in parallel between common points P1, P2, is open-circuited or short-circuited to earth comprises a diode D5-D8 connected in series with each resistor, a high resistance path R from the common point P2 to earth, a generator P.G. for supplying test pulses to the common point P1, and a detector A2 which checks that the test pulses appear at every one of the junctions P7-P10 between each resistor and diode. In a modification which enables a particular faulty resistor to be identified and also checks diodes D5-D8, further diodes D1-D4 are included, frequency dividers F1-F4 apply test pulses in turn to each of the junctions P3-P6 between the resistors and the further diodes, and a detector A1 checks that each applied pulse also appears at the common point P2. The resistors B1-B4 may form part of a crash restraint air or gas bag system in a vehicle, the heat generated in the resistors when crash-detect switches S1 S2 close firing explosives to remove obstructions disposed between gas cylinders and the air bags. Alternatively they may form part of a fire alarm system.
