Abstract

1389853 Adhesive tapes ANCHOR CONTINENTAL Inc 28 Feb 1972 9001/72 Headings C3P and C3Q Pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes are formed by coating a backing material with an adhesive composition comprising (1) a rubber selected from natural rubber, SBR, nitrile rubber and polyisoprene rubber; (2) a pre-polymer reaction product of an aromatic polyisocyanate with a hydroxylated elastomer selected from butadiene/styrene and butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymers and butadiene and isoprene homopolymers, the reactant proportions being such that the molar ratio of isocyanate groups to hydroxyl groups is in the range from 1À1 : 1 to 2 : 1, the proportion of the prepolymer in the adhesive being 0À25-3% by weight of the rubber; and (3) 25-100 wt. per cent of a polyurethane catalyst, e.g. stannous octoate or stannous neodecanoate, based on he prepolymer. In examples the adhesives are first formulated in solution in toluene or toluene/ heptane, with additional ingredients selected from polyterpene resin, phenol/formaldehyde resin, petroleum hydrocarbon resin, glycerol- or pentaerythritol-esters of hydrogenated rosin, 2,6-ditertbutyl-p-cresol, ZnO, and mineral oil.
