Abstract

1389537 Chucks JACOBS MFG CO Ltd 11 July 1972 [21 July 1971] 34253/71 Heading B3B A drill chuck for a power tool comprises a body part 10 in which converging bores 24 are formed for the reception of respective jaws 26, said body part being made of synthetic plastics material to electrically insulate a tool gripped by the chuck from the power tool, e.g. to protect an operator when a drill passes through an electric cable. The chuck operating sleeve 42 may also be made from a synthetic plastics material, or be metal with an insulating coating thereon. The sleeve 42 is attached to a bevel gear part 34 which is operated upon by a chuck key having a spigot engaging in a bore 38. A metal band 40 or separate inserts reinforce the bore or bores 38. The chuck is attached to a driving spindle by a threaded spigot or a threaded bore, which may be provided on a metal insert 12 moulded in the body part 10, or directly on the plastics body part.
