Abstract

1389154 Cathode-ray tube circuits; sawtooth current generators II EFIMOV M L LIFSHITS D D NIKIFOROV V P IVANOV L E LINETSKY V G LAZAREV and A I BRENIN 18 July 1973 34252/73 Headings H4T and H3T [Also in Division H1] A device for focusing and deflecting the electron beam of a cathode-ray tube comprises two series connected coaxially disposed windings 4, 5 (Fig. 1), the planes of the turns in each winding being symmetrically inclined at the same angle α relative to the axis 6 the windings being connected to an output stage 7 which is supplied from a power source 9 and a sawtooth voltage scanning frequency source 10. In operation, the sawtooth voltage unbalances a bridge formed by windings 4, 5 and resistors 12, 13 and transistor 11, causing equal and opposite currents to flow in the windings 4, 5, so that a constant current flows through resistor 16, windings 4, 5 and resistor 20. This current produces the required magnetic focusing field and to ensure constancy stabilization is effected by utilizing any variation in the voltage across resistor 20 to control the base of the transistor via diode 19 and resistor 18. An additional winding connected across the power source 9 may be employed to produce an additional focusing field which adds to the main focusing field produced by windings 4, 5 and adjustment of the current in such additional winding is stated to allow better matching between windings 4, 5 and the output stage 7 (Fig. 3, not shown). When the beam is also to be deflected in a second direction a second pair of suitably orientated windings 9 and appropriate drive circuitry is employed. The invention is stated to be suitable for portable T.V. cameras for use with video tape recorders, in closed circuit T.V. applications and with T.V. cameras for inspection of smalldiameter tubes.
