Abstract

1388832 Monitoring television signals PYE Ltd 8 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 15770/71 Heading H4L In a method of monitoring for the presence of the sound signal in a "sound-in-sync." television signal, the sync. pulses are separated and pulses derived therefrom, one edge of which occurs within the period occupied by the vision content of the television signal, the television signal being applied to a vision monitor having a display triggered by said derived pulses whereby the sound signal appearing in the blanking period and at least a portion of the vision signal are displayed simultaneously. As described, the composite signal comprising line sync. pulses, picture signal and sound digits occurring within each line sync. pulse is supplied to a unit which removes the sound pulses. The sync. pulses are separated from the resulting signal, and these pulses are delayed by half a line period and used to trigger the display of the vision monitor. A second blanking pulse occurring at the flyback period of the vision monitor may be inserted into the signal to prevent illumination of the display during this period. Switching is provided so that if it is desired to monitor the vision content of the signal, the line sync. pulses are used to trigger the vision monitor.
