Abstract

1388813 Copolymer of styrene and N-vinylcarbazole THOMSON-CSF 4 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16213/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division G2] Copoly styrene-N-vinyl carbazole is made by the reaction of equal weights of the monomers in methylene chloride at - 60‹ C. in the presence of boron trifluoride etherate under nitrogen. The gel formed by reaction is treated with a small quantity of ammonia and the copolymer precipitated by methyl alcohol. A copolymer of styrene with 4-nitro or 4- bromo N-vinyl carbazole is mentioned.
