Abstract

1388426 Pig launching and receiving station GENERAL DESCALING CO Ltd 17 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 33352/72 Heading F2N Between coaxial pig receiving and launching traps 2 and 4 is a station 6, at which a pig basket (e.g. 24) may be removed from trap 2 or 4, opened, unloaded (crane 42 carrier pig 38) or loaded, closed, and reinserted in trap 2 or 4. The baskets are withdrawn from and introduced into their traps by an hydraulically operated drawbar, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown), having two perpendicular, hook-ended arms pivotal as a unit through 90 degrees from one position, in which a first arm is operative in connection with trap 2, to another position, in which the other arm is operative in connection with trap 4. Such pivotal movement is hydraulically effected, Fig. 6 (not shown). The drawbar unit is movable along rails 52 of station 6. Rails 40 for the baskets are aligned or alignable with corresponding rails (not shown) in the traps. Each basket, Fig. 4 (not shown), has two arcuate side sections pivoted to an arcuate base section. Pivoting of the side sections to open and close the basket (and, in the case of closing, to compress the pig) is effected by arms 30. A base frame 22 mounts a subframe 20 for station 6 and two subframes 18 for the respective traps. Each trap has a cover 8 or 10 movable hydraulically axially and laterally with respect to its associated trap.
