Abstract

1387997 Container traffic; container lifting stand R M LEE 7 Aug 1972 [25 May 1971] 16769/71 Heading B8Q A container lifting stand comprises spaced inwardly facing channel guides 2 and a container supporting member 10 guided thereby, along the longitudinal axis of the guides, the upper cross slide 11 of which engages the container or a projection therefrom. A central connecting member 13 of the supporting member has holes 14 which can be engaged by a pin 24 of a displacement means 18 and by a peg 15 to hold the member 10 in raised positions. The slide 11 of each stand at each corner of the container is raised to contact a part of the container and is held there by the pin 15 after which the means 18 is operated by the handle 26 to raise each slide 11 the distance between two holes 14 after which the pin 15 is engaged in the next hole. When the container is raised sufficiently a vehicle can be driven from beneath it. Subsequently, the container can be lowered similarly on to another vehicle. Other displacement means such as screw jacks or piston and cylinder units or cam means may be used. As shown, the stand has a base plate 4 and is mobile being wheeled on a wheel 7 but for heavy containers the stand may be set in concrete.
