Abstract
1387357 Valves M SHARMAN 27 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 55064/72 Heading F2V In a float-operated valve for maintaining a constant level of liquid in a container the float operates a safety cut-off pinch-cock if the liquid level rises above a predetermined level. The float 21 rotates a cylindrical cam member 18 having a transverse bore 19 which engages the bent end of a pin 16 to which is connected a valve member 15, controlling the outlet of a rubber of plastics tube 14, loaded to the closed position by a spring 17. The safety cut-off pinch-cock comprises the tube 14 which is collapsed by a plunger 23, loaded by a spring 26, when the cam 18 engages the bent end of a pin 29 which engages in a groove 24 in the plunger when the plunger is withdrawn by a ring 28 attached to it. In a modified arrangement the valve member 15 is replaced by a lever operated by the cam 18 which acts on the side of the tube 14 to control the flow. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the float lever (37) is connected to the ends of a valve operating stem (36) and a pin (45) which engages the groove in the pinch-cock plunger. In normal operation the lever pivots on the end of the pin (45) to operate the valve but should the liquid level continue to rise when the valve is seated the lever then pivots about the end of the valve stem to withdraw the pin 45 thus operating the pinch-cock. The valve includes an adapter (47) and clamping ring (48) for mounting the valve.
