1387158 Accelerometers ROSTOVSKY ORDENA TRUDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI GOSUDARSTVENNY UNIVERSITET 9 Aug 1972 37221/72 Heading G1N An accelerometer comprises a monolithic block of Piezo-electric material which is provided with recesses 2 which function to divide the block into a base portion 3, an active portion 4 and an inertial mass portion 5. In one embodiment the recesses which are cylindrical are radially disposed as shown in Fig. 2, and communicate with upper and lower recesses 7. The recesses 2 are coated with metal to provide electrodes and the accelerometer may be metal coated to provide electrostatic screening. In a further embodiment Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) the recesses are wedge shaped. In a third embodiment Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), each of two recesses has the shape defined by an L rotating about the accelerometer.
