Abstract

1387038 Delayed release medicaments RUMEN CHEMIE A G 16 March 1972 [17 March (2) 4 June 1971 24 Sept 1971] 12390/ 72 Heading A5B Biologically active substances fed to ruminant animals pass through the rumen to be absorbed elsewhere if they are partly or completely enclosed in a matrix comprising a saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having at least 14 carbon atoms or a salt thereof. The matrix may also include an unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having at least 14 carbon atoms or a salt thereof. Carboxylic acids specified include myristic, palmitic, stearic, arachidic, behenic, oleic and ricimoleic. Biologically active substances specified include glucose, aliphatic monocarboxylic acids having at least 14 carbon atoms which differ in constitution from the matrix acid(s), methionine, animal fat, histamine, bismuth, subnitrate, sulphaclimidine. The substances may be made up as particles and fed to dairy cows, goats and ewes before and after parturition.
