Abstract

1385341 Blasting WHEELABRATOR CORP 25 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 3448/72 Heading B3D [Also in Division B8] Articles, e.g. metal parts, are conveyed in spaced relation through a rotatable tunnel by means of a longitudinally reciprocable drawbar. As a blast zone 12 is rotated, a tunnel 10 provided with bars 18, 20, 22 ... 28 to support parts to be processed (not shown) is also rotated, the parts which have been fed by means 46, being drawn through the tunnel, step-by-step, by projections 52 on a drawbar 50 which extends through end walls 14, 16 of the tunnel. On its return longitudinal movement, the bar 50 is raised due to cam and roller means 66, 68; 58, 60 and the projections 52 are disengaged from the parts. Means for rotating the tunnel 10, together with the drawbar assembly, comprise frames 70, 72 through which the assembly passes, the frame 70 being rotated by a motor 79. Longitudinal reciprocation of the drawbar 50 is derived from rotation of the frame 72 which is secured to a framework 82, 84, 86 housing a scotch yoke assembly 94. The articles are discharged by means 48. In a modification, Fig. 7, a drawbar having upwardly extending projections 108 is controlled by opposing springs 120, 122 and is longitudinally movable by an hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 116. A modified cam means Fig. 11 (not shown) includes pivoted arms (138, 142) which aid the movement of a roller (60<SP>1</SP>) between sections (132, 134) of the cam means. There may be more than one drawbar and tunnel.
