Abstract

1384903 Reciprocating saws F A COLSTONILES and A M THOMSON 13 Feb 1973 [14 Feb 1972] 6824/72 Heading B5L A saw assembly comprises a base 10, a support frame 15 pivotally mounted on the base and adapted to support a power hand drill 32 in a predetermined position on the support frame, means, e.g. a clamp 31, for securing the drill 32 to the frame 15 in said position, and a carrier 17 slidably mounted on the frame 15 and having means for releasably securing a saw blade 19 thereto. The carrier 17 is coupled to transmission means on the frame with an input member 26 of which the chuck of the drill 32 is engageable when the drill is in said position, the transmission means being operative to convert continuous rotary movement of the input member into reciprocatory movement of the carrier. The input member 26 is integral with or carries a worm 25 which drives a worm-wheel 24 connected with the carrier 17 by a link 21. Arms 18 of the carrier have split ends to receive the saw blade 19 which is held by screw clamps 20 or spring loaded devices. The base 10 carries a vice 11 for clamping a workpiece, a lug 13 to which the frame 15 is pivoted at 14 and a stop 34 to limit movement of the frame 15 towards the base under gravity and possibly spring pressure. A strip 12 is provided to support the workpiece to ensure that it is cut completely through. Alternatively the base 10 is recessed to receive the saw blade. In a second embodiment the base has a pair of parallel arms in each of which is threaded a screwed bolt carrying a V-section clamp for engagement with one side of a tubular workpiece.
