Abstract

1384746 Vehicle seats SIFRA 19 May 1972 [20 March 1972] 23607/72 Heading A4U A vehicle seat S is resiliently mounted on a fixed frame by a pair of arms 1 which have one end pivoted to the seat at 2 and the other end to the fixed frame through a torsion assembly 5, the seat being guided for rear vertical movement by a slide 6 fixed to the seat backrest and reciprocating in a guide on the fixed frame on a line XY which is substantially parallel to a chord of the circle described by the pivot pin 2. The torsion assembly comprises a rubber, or like, resilient member adhered to inner and outer sleeves 17, 18, the sleeve 17 being secured to a shaft 4 rotatably mounted in a box 9 forming part of the fixed frame and to which the ends of the arms 1 are fixed. The outer sleeve 18 is secured to the box 9 through a rod 19 pivoted at 20 to a tab 21 on the sleeve, the effective length of the rod being adjusted by a screwed knob 22 to adjust the angular position of the sleeve 18 and in conjunction with a stop 23 for a tab 24 on the sleeve 17 to adjust the initial tension in the rubber to suit the weight of the occupant. The slide 6 is secured to the backrest by a stirrup 7 and moves between a stop 11, held in place by a pivoted lever 12, and a stop 14 in guides 8 secured inside the box 9 and having a lining 10 of frictional plastics material which assists in damping the seat oscillation. The box 9 is slidable on the vertical parts of tubes 25 and is locked in adjusted position by a notched shoe 27 tightened against a notched rack 26, secured between the tubes, by turning a knob 28, and the horizontal parts of the tubes 5 are slidable in guide sleeves 30 secured by a plate 31 to the vehicle and are locked in adjusted fore and aft position by a knob 32.
