Abstract

1384538 Refining oils BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 22 May 1972 [24 May 1971] 16627/71 Heading C5E [Also in Division A5] Materials for use as molluscicides are prepared by isolating an aromatics plus heterocyclics fraction from a crude petroleum or petroleum fraction, oxidizing the isolated fraction and separating the molluscicide as acidic materials from the oxidized fraction. The aromatics plus heterocyclics fraction can be obtained by contacting the petroleum with silica gel, eluting the naphthene plus paraffin fraction from the silica gel with n-pentane and then eluting the aromatics plus heterocyclics fraction from the silica gel with ethyl acetate or toluene.
