Candles.-In a candle-making machine, the material is poured into the mould 3 through a filling-channel 1 positioned bv a stop 8 and laterally movable slabs 9 so that its edges lie along the centre of two adjacent lines of moulds, the wicks 5 passing through grooves 4 in the edges of the channel, the slats, or both, to the candles 6 in the clamps 7. When the material sets it is removed from the channel and the wicks are cut by a suitably-shaped knife, the channel is removed, the slabs moved aside, and the candles pushed into the clamps 7 bv the pistons 13. Preferably, the channel is sloped upward from the filling-inlet 12, and is double walled to retain the heat. The clamps shown in Fig. 3 consist of two parts provided with semicircular candle recesses 16 and normally kept slightly apart by springs but brought together by a lever 17 having cams 19 or being grooved at one side where it engages the eyes 18. Cooling about the mouths of the moulds 3 is hastened by suitably recessing the mould-plate on the underside.
