1383970 Hologram array PLESSEY CO Ltd 9 March 1973 [26 April 1972] 19404/72 Heading G2J A hologram array 6 having high diffraction efficiency and coincident reconstructions (thus enabling a single photo-detector to be used for read-out) is made by first forming a hologram 1 containing the information and spaced points 1a-c, illuminating this by read-out beams 3-5 and producing the second hologram 6 through lens 2 so that when read-out by parallel read-out beams anti-parallel to the reference beams (only one, 7, shown) coincidence of all margins is achieved at 8. The photo-detector may be displaced somewhat from 8 to enable lens 2 to be one having positional optics as explained in the Specification.
