Abstract

1383325 Radar simulators; sawtooth wave generators; analogue gates REDIFON Ltd 2 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 8280/71 Headings H4D and H3T In radar simulation apparatus several display units, representing radar displays on independently moving vehicles, are time multiplexed to a single computer and target echo generator system. Data relating to vehicle movement is entered into computer 1 by keyboards 27.1 to 27.12, corresponding to displays 6.1 to 6.12, via interface 26. The computer converts vehicle control parameters, e.g. rudder angle, rate of climb, dive &c. into corresponding polar position co-ordinates and also generates the signals for simulated scanner rotation. The computer feeds a processing system 3 via interface 2, the interface containing separate registers for display address, display deflection, and target data code words. The processing system decodes the display address data and provides enabling pulses to multiplexer switches in unit 5, converts the display deflection code words to analogue voltages for the display sweep coils, and mixes the target data to provide a complex video waveform corresponding to several targets on the same bearing. The system described can simulate up to ten such targets. Unit 5 comprises analogue switches for sequentially feeding the display sweep coils and digital switches feeding the display bright up circuits to indicate targets. The display units have controls for selecting the scale or range of the display, this information being fed back to the computer over lines 24 so that the data may be appropriately modified. Sawtooth wave generators, Fig. 7.-The displays are P.P.I.s using resolved time bases fed by generators 43, 43<SP>1</SP> corresponding to North and East components. D.A.C.s 1, 2 give the analogue components of the scanner azimuth angle. The D.A.C.s are connected to Miller integrators 70, 71 which integrate the D.A.C. outputs to give signals of a polarity and final magnitude dependent on the D.A.C. outputs. Switches or analogue gates 74, 75 are switched on by timing pulses RMSTP+ to shunt the D.A.C.s and reset the integrators. Analogue gates, Fig. 8.-Fig. 8 illustrates detailed circuitry of the analogue switches or gates. The gate control is applied at terminal 81. This controls the off or on state of a metaloxide silicon f.e.t. 80 via transistors 84, 85, 86.
