Abstract

1383046 Cutting and handling foodstocks RUSTON'S ENG CO Ltd 16 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 35774/72 Heading A4C [Also in Division B8] In a machine for unloading clamp silos, having rotatable cutting head arranged for vertical movement, and means for conveying material cut by the head from a silage stack to a container for the cut material, the cutting head is in the form of a rotatable shaft or drum 6 having a cutting blade 12 or 13 at each end thereof and chain flails 16 spaced along the shaft or drum 6 between the cutting blades. As shown, two main frame members 1, 2 of the machine are mounted on a tractor. A transverse member 3 vertically movable along the main frame members 1, 2 by hydraulic cylinders (not shown) connected to the hydraulic system of the tractor. Transverse member 3 carries support arms 4, 5 in which the shaft or drum 6 is journalled, shaft 6 having a central gear driven by a chain 7 engaging a sprocket 8, which is connected to a sprocket 9 engaged by a chain 10, which is driven by the tracter power take-off and extends upward sufficiently to be engaged by pinion 9 at any height necessary. A chain guard 11 protects chain 7 and may assist in the mounting of shaft 6. The discs 12, 13 each carry replaceable knives 14. Shaft 6 has lugs 15, arranged helically, for the attachment of chain flails 16, each with a solid weight at its end. A feed auger 17, rotatable in a frame 18 mounted on frame members 1, 2, has two inwardly directed flights 19, 20, so that as it is continuously rotated material is fed towards paddles 21 which eject it through an opening 22, which communicates with a blower which transfers the material to a container or carrier.
