Abstract
1382855 Welding by fusion INGENIEURBURO SCHIFFBAU VEB 12 May 1972 22545/72 Heading B3R In apparatus for effecting four vertical position fillet welds simultaneously, at a workpiece intersection, particularly for double bottom construction in shipbuilding, each of four consumable electrode are welding heads 7-10 is provided with workpiece engaging guiding means arranged to ensure alignment of a torch nozzle 18 with a corresponding workpiece angle bisector and a constant nozzle/corner distance irrespective of deviation, along the length of the weld, of the intersection from the vertical (Fig. 2, not shown), workpiece angle from 90 degrees (Fig. 3, not shown), or bisector angular position (Fig. 4, not shown). The heads 7-10 are supported by way of lifting devices (2)-(5), by a platform 1 which is vertically and horizontally movable on a gantry and carries a cross-hair lamp by which the heads are alignable with a workpiece-intersection. Lowering of the platform 1 on to the workpiece upper edge renders the latter more rigid. The devices (2)-(5) are movable, individually or together, about a workpiece intersection axis, by way of a toothed ring (6, Fig. 2, not shown) for coarse adjustment of the welding heads to the workpiece angle bisectors. Each welding head comprises a consumable electrode are torch nozzle 18 and a workpiece engaging corner guide wheel 15 displaceably supported for movement in the bisector direction, on a guide support 22 which is provided with workpiece engaging side guide elements 16, 17 and is slidably mounted for movement in the bisector direction and for arcuate movement about the intersection axis, on a guide segment 21 fast on a member 12. The latter is slidably mounted, for spring-centred movement transversely of the bisector, by way. of guides 19, 20, on a plate 13 which, by way of a pin 14, is supported for rotation about a vertical axis on a respective one of the lifting devices (2)-(5). The nozzle 18 and guide wheel 15 are relatively adjustable to suit fillet size. A pneumatic cylinder 11 moves the guide support 22 and guide elements 16, 17 towards the workpiece corner, and the guide wheel 15 is biased in the same direction by springs (not shown).
