1382577 Isomerization catalyst IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 April 1972 [3 May 1971] 12739/71 Addition to 1332303 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] Catalysts used for the isomerization of alkylibenzenes comprise a catalytic hydrogenating metal component and, a silica, alumina, or silica-alumina support, which support has been exposed to liquid water at above 100‹C. The support suitably has a surface area of 200- 700 m<SP>2</SP> g before the exposure; the exposure increases the mean pore size of the support, e.g. from 10-200Š to 50-400Š. A silicaalumina support containing 10 wt% alumina is exposed to liquid water at 205‹C for 4.5 hours and then impregnated with aqueous chloroplatinic acid.
