Abstract

1382571 5-Nitroquinoline derivatives ROUSSEL UCLAF 30 Aug 1973 [31 Aug 1972] 40814/73 Heading C2C Novel 5-nitroquinoline derivatives having the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or (C 1 -C 6 ) alkyl, and R<SP>2</SP> is alkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylsulphonyl or alkylthio, in each of which groups the alkyl moiety contains from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a (C 1 -C 6 ) acyl, (C 6 -C 8 ) arylsulphonyl, phenylthio, tetrahydrofurfuryl or (2-thienyl)-methyl radical, with the proviso that when R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen then R<SP>2</SP> is other than methyl, are prepared either by (a) reacting 5-nitro-8-hydroxy quinoline with a carbamoyl chloride of the formula or with an isocyanate of the formula or (b) reacting 5-nitro-8-(methylcarbamoyloxy)- quinoline with a halide of the formula: R 2 -Hal, wherein R 2 is (C 1 -C 6 ) alkylthio or phenylthio. The reactions are carried out in the presence of a basic agent such as pyridine or triethylamine, and preferably in the presence of a solvent such as dimethylformamide or tetrahydrofuran. The compounds of the invention possess fungicidal and biocidal properties.
