Abstract

1382535 Laminates DAYCO CORP 19 April 1973 [24 May 1972] 19024/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division F2] A U-belt 10 comprises an outer tension section 11 including a plurality of fabric layers 14 impregnated with an elastomeric material; an adjacent load-carrying section 12 comprising a layer 15 of highly resilient elastomeric material and having load-carrying elements 16 embedded therein; and an inner compression section 13 having a plurality of layers including a stiffening layer 20 adjacent said load-carrying section and a plurality of fabric layers 21, said stiffening layer comprising an elastomeric material with discrete fibres 22 embedded therein, the fabric layers on the compression section each having warp 24 and weft 25 threads disposed at an angle of between 105 and 120 degrees with each other. The fabric layers 14 and 21 may be identical and may be woven from rayon, nylon, polyester or cotton fibres. The load-carrying elements preferably comprise a helically wound polyester cord comprising a plurality of twisted strands 17, the strands and the exposed surface of the cord being coated with an isocyanate cement. The fibres 22 in the stiffening layer 20 may be arranged perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the belt, transverse to said axis or at any suitable angle, the fibres being of cotton, rayon, nylon or polyester. The elastomeric material is preferably neoprene.
