Abstract

1381879 Radiopaque materials UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOUNDATION 21 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970 (2)] 59422/71 Heading A5B [Also in Divisions G6 and H5] Materials useful as radiopaque agents, e.g. in X-ray photography, comprise or consist of a brominated perfluorocarbon. Suitable compounds are: acyclic compounds such as CF 3 (CF 2 ) 6 CF 2 Br; CF 3 (CF 2 ) 4 CF 2 Br; Br(CF 2 ) 4 Br; Br(CF 2 ) 2 Br; C 6 F 5 Br; C 6 F 4 Br 2 ; CF 3 .CFBr.CF 2 Br. For diagnostic purposes they may be used in compositions, e.g. emulsions comprising conventional pharmaceutically acceptable excipients. Also claimed is a method of forming an X-ray image of a substantially non-radiopaque body utilizing the above agents; e.g. for detecting cracks and flaws in conventional manner.
