Abstract

1381589 Disc brakes SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 July 1972 46474/73 Addition to 1349455 Heading F2E A device for preventing disc brake squealing comprises a pair of friction shoes on opposite sides of a rotary disc 2 each including a back plate 5 and a friction pad 4 secured thereto and disposed towards the leading ends of the shoes, a block 6 is located in recesses of, extends across the radially outer edges of, and is in pressure engagement with, the plates. The block 6 is serrated and is held in serrated grooves 9 by a spring 10 extending between two pins 12 located in the plates 5. The block is of heavy material and may be magnetic. Brake squeal is avoided by the effective change of position of the respective centres of gravity of each plate 5 towards the centre line of the disc 2, due to the block 6.
