Abstract
1381578 Formaldehyde; pentaerythritol MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 23 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970 (2)] 60162/71 Heading C2C Formaldehyde is recovered by the distillation of an aqueous formaldehyde solution (containing up to 30% by weight of formaldehyde in the feed) in a distillation tower to concentrate formaldehyde to a concentration of up to 60% by weight of formaldehyde at the top of the tower, the distillation being conducted under a gauge pressure of 1À5 to 20 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> in the tower for up to 120 minutes at a pH not above 6. In the examples pentaerythritol is recovered by purification of the distillation residue, the feed solution comprising the reaction solution from a pentaerythritol synthesis.
