1381348 Digital data storage BRITISH BROADCASTING CORP 6 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16250/72 Heading G4C [Also in Division H3] Frequency or phase modulated data (b) recorded on a magnetic medium is reproduced as a waveform (c) which after differentiation at 18 (waveform (e)) and clipping at 20 produces a rectangular waveform (f) having transitions coinciding with the peaks and the boundaries of the quiescent periods between the peaks of waveform (c), and this waveform is gated by pulses (d) coinciding with the peaks of waveform (c) to produce the data output (g). The peak-representing pulses are generated by a comparator 14 having the playback signal (c) as one input and positive and negative balanced signals 15 as the other input representing the average peak value of both polarity excursions divided in a fixed ratio.
