Abstract

1381240 Tobacco-smoke filters SHOWA DENKO KK 20 March 1973 [23 March 1972 18 Oct 1972 5 Feb 1973] 13348/73 Heading A2C The filters are formed from a fibrous or particulate ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing 10-80 mol% of ethylene and saponified to an extent greater than 85%. Preferably the extent of saponification exceeds 90%, in which case the saponified copolymer may be mixed with up to 50% by weight of fibrous or particulate polyolefins such as polyethylene or polypropylene. The filter material may advantageously be treated with saturated steam at 80-140‹C, or be impregnated with water and heated to 55-150‹C, to bind the fibres or particles. Optional additives specified are the triols glycerine and 1, 2, 6-hexane triol, and a number of diols.
