1381176 Locking threaded fasteners V E TIKHONOV J A KITRINSKY J V CHIRKUNOV and N S PESTRETSOV 28 Oct 1972 49810/72 Heading F2H To lock a nut 19 to a bolt 3, the bolt houses in an internal bore 4 a spring-loaded retainer pin 5 which bears teeth 28 projecting through axial grooves 10 in the wall of the bolt and engaging the threads 22 of the nut, the nut, in addition to its internal threads, being formed with a series of axial grooves 29 which the teeth 28 can enter. Both the pin and the bolt have slotted end faces 13, 14 and when engaged by a screwdriver so that the bottoms of the slots 25, 9 lie flush with one another the pin 5 and thus the teeth 28 are moved against the action of the spring 7 and relative to the bolt 3 into a position in which the teeth 28 form a continuation of the bolt threads, and hence the bolt can be rotated into the nut in conventional fashion to join two members together, the nut 19 being fastened to one member, e.g. by riveting and preferably a bush 1 being fastened to the other. On removal of the screwdriver the pin 5 is moved back by the spring so that the teeth 28 enter the grooves 29 in the nut thus interfering with the nut threads 22 and preventing rotation and unfastening of the bolt. Other embodiments having different nut and bolt constructions are described.
