Abstract

1379974 Television CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 24 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3355/72 Heading H4F In an aid to the alignment of two objects, e.g. a pipe end 10, Fig. 5a, in a heat exchanger and a workpiece or plug 52, one object, e.g. 52, has two television cameras 54, 56 coupled to it with their viewing axes intersecting at the desired position of the centre of the pipe end. The two views of the pipe end are displayed on a television monitor using a split screen technique. The left half of the display shows the left half view of camera 54 and right half of the display shows the right half view of camera 56. With the direction of frame scan of both cameras 54 and 56 being both towards the letter T, i.e. with the line scans into the figure, the display is as shown in Fig. 5e when the desired alignment is achieved. Lateral movement of the object 14 and cameras 16, 18 causes one half of the display to move up and the other half to move down to give the displays shown in Fig. 5 (c, d). In an alternative method, the frame scan of camera 76, Fig. 6a, is into the figure, and that of camera 74 is out of the figure. This gives the displays shown in Figs. 6 (c, d, e) with the images of the pipe end approaching each other and merging for alignment.
